At our Learning Centre we ensure that the students receive the highest standard of education, in a fun and dynamic environment.

Our premises are centrally positioned on the main road, Ayia Phyla area in Limassol, approximately 1 km to the North of the Ayia Phyla roundabout. The Centre is a modern, dynamic and friendly educational establishment, where the education of the student is the priority and the sole purpose. Teaching excellence is our key to your success! Through careful lesson planning and teaching we make certain that the students improve their Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking skills. Great importance is given to Conversational skills, as this is in general the weak point of most students who attend various language centres. Our target is to make certain that our students think in English when they speak English. Our experienced teachers hold qualifications from United Kingdom Universities, with native like fluency in the English Language. Interactive whiteboards, overhead projectors and the application of the newest and most effective teaching techniques ensure that the lessons are both interesting, engaging and effective.

The teaching classes are designed to accommodate a maximum of 12 students. Lessons are offered twice a week and each lessons lasts between 60 – 90 minutes. This set up provides the teacher with the opportunity to integrate the conversational element with the general teaching of the course syllabus.

The Institute’s Director of Studies is Alan A. Demetriou, a UK educated English Language and Literature teacher who holds a BA (Hons) in English Language and Literature (ELL), an MA in Education specializing in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) and an MA in Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL).

English Language

IGCSE in English as a 2nd Language (CIE / Edexccel)

The IGCSE E2L is a widely accepted examination by all United Kingdom universities as evidence of proficiency in English for candidates whose mother tongue is not English. The required score is either A, B or C, depending on the University and the course one is applying for. The examination tests the four Language skills: Reading – Writing – Listening – Speaking. At our Language Institute we ensure that candidates are thoroughly prepared to achieve the highest grade they can at each skill. There are two examination sessions per academic year, the May/June and the October/November sessions so candidates have the opportunity to retake the examination if they need to improve on their grade.

Anglia Exams

Anglia Exams are ideal for testing the abilities of those learning English as a foreign language. The Anglia General English exam suite measures all four language skills – listening, reading, speaking and writing. Anglia exams are ideal for students of English as a foreign or second language and are designed to measure the ability and help guide candidates from beginner level at First Step, to Masters (C2) level. The young-learner levels are also available for adult learners, meaning that anyone at any age can start learning English step-by-step with confidence.

IELTS (International English Language Testing System)

This examination is widely acceptable by English speaking universities, research institutes and corporations as evidence of proficiency in the English language for candidates whose mother tongue is not English.
The grading scale is from 1 to 9 and universities usually require an IELTS score between 5.5 and 7.5, depending on the university and the course one is applying for.
The examination tests the four language skills: Reading – Writing – Listening – Speaking. IELTS is a flexible examination. There are several examination sittings throughout the year, providing candidates with the opportunity to take the examination at any time. Candidates have the opportunity to retake the examination every two months, if they need to improve on their score.
At our Language Institute, we offer intense and flexible IELTS courses, as well as a short Pre-IELTS course (40-50 hours) for candidates who are in need of some preparatory lessons.

English Literature

IGCSE in English Literature:

(International General Certificate of Secondary Education)
The IGCSE in English Literature is a preparatory course, which will eventually lead the student to the A-Level in English Literature. Drama, Poetry and Prose are the elements covered in the syllabus of the IGCSE in English Literature examination. The course duration depends on the students’ abilities. There are 2 sessions per week, of one hour and thirty minutes per session.
Analysing and discussing the various books and poems in class, improves on the students’ conversational levels as well as on their vocabulary. The study and analysis of old English plays (e.g. Shakespeare, Ibsen, Miller etc), written when the social norms were different, and by looking at all these being reflected in the play by the writer, stimulates the curiosity and the interest of the students.
IGCSE in English Literature is interesting and challenging. It is the first step into English Literature, and after successful completion the student proceeds to the Advanced level in English Literature.

GCE AS / A-Level in English Literature:

(General Certificate of Education Advance Subsidiary / Advanced Level)
The Advanced Level is divided into two sections. Advanced Subsidiary and the Advanced Level. The Advanced Level in English Literature qualification is an entry requirement for the candidate who wants to study for a Bachelor Degree (BA) in English Literature or English Language and Literature. It advances on the knowledge gained from the study of the IGCSE in English Literature. The course duration depends on the students’ abilities. There are 2 sessions per week, which last one hour and thirty minutes per session. Drama, Poetry and Prose are extensively covered throughout the A-Level’s study. Analysing and discussing the books and poems in class, improves on the students’ conversational levels and on their vocabulary skills. Studying and analysing English plays (e.g. Shakespeare, Ibsen, Miller, Keats, Shelley, Dickens etc.) written in times of different social conventions, and learning about the way of life of people living in that particular period, being reflected in the play, stimulates the curiosity and the interest of the students.
As with the IGCSE, the A-Level is a demanding and challenging course, suitable for students who have a genuine interest in English Literature.
